Hydraulic Design For Pressure Piping

For hydraulic design such as flow rate or pressure head loss, the Hazen-Williams formula can be used. The friction loss in hydraulic flow can be evaluated through the use of various flow coefficients. One such coefficient is the Hazen-Williams C factor. This factor for PVC and CPVC plastic pipe has been set at C=150.
The friction loss can be calculated from the following equation;

where;
hf: friction head loss (ft)
C: constant for inside pipe roughness (C = 150 for PVC and CPVC pipe)
Q: flow rate (U.S. gallon/min)
di: inside diameter (in)
L: pipe length (ft)

where;
hf: friction head loss (m)
C: constant for inside pipe roughness (C = 150 for PVC and CPVC pipe)
Q: flow rate (m3/sec)
di: inside diameter (m)
L: pipe length (m)
